My curricula/vitae, list of academic essays, and list of academic colleagues working in anime and manga-related research has been updated.

My curricula/vitae and list of academic conventions that I frequent have been updated.

I've updated my list of people I've worked with to the right; new additions include Christopher Bolton, Tania Del Rio, Antonia Levi, and Wendy Wong, all of whom I presented with at this past year's Schoolgirl's and Mobilesuits Conference and had not had the pleasure of doing before.

I had sent a review of Will Brooker's Using the Force: Creativity, Community and Star Wars Fans to the Graduate Journal of Social Science about 2-3 years ago. By happenstance and the power of Google, I found that they had actually published it this summer. My C/V has been updated to include that, as well as my new position as co-webmaster for the Mechademia website.

Over 3 months without an update - yikes. I've since made changes to the list of available essays, a minor detail change on the bio page, and an update overhaul of the curricula/vitae.

I found John Lent's contact info for the right-side links page, but Xu Ying's contact information remains a mystery. I should probably find that out from him soon.

I decided to put up an open letter to the anime fandom community to give fans a better idea on what it is I'm doing and not doing with this dissertation. While this is an academic webspace, making it and my work too inaccessible to the fandom on which it relies doesn't do much good for anyone. Hopefully this letter can be a first step to clearing some of the hurdles to a more open dialogue between academics and fans.

Did yet another update to the C/V, this time changing the title of my paper that I presented at PCA this past week. It was a fabulous conference, and as soon as I find John Lent and Xu Ying's contact information, they will go on the right-hand column of anime colleagues I have worked with. Their papers as well as Frenchy Lunning's made for a wonderful panel, despite its 8 a.m. schedule and expected lower numbers of attendance. To all of you who have left feedback, thank you. It will be considered in my later work.

On the suggestion of Antonia Levi, I've also opted to include my fan interview chapter in Mark West's "The Japanification of Children's Culture" in the C/V as well.

I suppose I should have announced this earlier, but last week on February 21, I successfully defended my prospectus and am now ABD! "All" that's left is the dissertation, and I will finally complete my Ph.D.

In the meantime, I have allowed the CFP announcements to become stale for too long. Therefore, I've opted to eliminate them completely in favor of linking to a list of academic mailing lists that announce the CFP's in the first place.

Updated Pamela Gossin's link to her newer website (thanks, Marc). Also, I've added my recently completed dissertation prospectus in the Academic Essays portion of the website.

I put in a new picture on my biography page, this time of me and my fiancee Cathy in front of Launch Complex 39 at NASA's JFK Space Center. The T-shirts we're wearing are from Anime Central's yearly campaign to improve fan hygenie and stamp out "fanboy funk".

After presenting and chairing two panels at QUIG over the weekend, as well as getting a panel chairing at SEAES for February, I had a bit to add to my C/V, now updated. Also, now that the holidays are over and folks have been getting back to their computers, the CFP's are buzzing through all of the mailing lists. I have included a few of those as well

Happy New Year, everyone! I've placed all of the old updates of 2004 on a different page (see below). Besides that, I updated my C/V a little bit; the only thing to do at this point since CFP's are light during the holiday season.
